The Aluminothermic Rail Welding Course is for those looking to upgrade their skillset and gain employment as an aluminothermic rail welder.
Students can expect to learn how to use oxy-LPG equipment to heat and cut materials, LPG heating and cutting equipment types, characteristics, uses and limitations, safe operation of grinding equipment, and much more.

Course Structure
The aluminothermic rail welding course is made up of the following modules:
Core
-
TLIW0004 - Grind Rails
-
TLIW0006 - Heat and cut materials using oxy-LPG equipment for the rail industry
-
TLIW3015 - Weld rail using aluminothermic welding process
* Initial theory delivery will take place over 5 days. Following this, students must log 40 welds in a log book. Upon completion of the required welds, students will return for a 6th day for final sign off.
Role Requirements
Participants must hold the following competencies or equivalent units prior to working as an operator:
- Railway Medical Category 3
- Construction Industry White Card (CPCWHS1001)
- Safely access the rail corridor​ - TLIF0020 (or equivalent)

TLIS2034 Install and repair rail fastening systems
